Hello, my name is Luisa Buss
I am a current sophomore and first year research student at Princeton High School. My main interest is sustainability, in fact, that is why I was drawn to the research program! I thought that the 2022 Samsung Solve for Tomorrow project regarding black soldier flies was so creative and I wanted to do something like it.
Current Research Project
Currently, I am developing an aquaponics system in which salicornia plants and pacific whiteleg shrimp can grow in tandem while benefiting each other. In short, salicornia plants grow in capsules of soil, sand, and loam that are located in tubes through which water from the shrimp tank can run. Nutrients created by shrimp feces provide nutrients for the salicornia, and the salicornia prevent excessive ammonia from killing the shrimp!
